Request Signs and Brochures

The CAIC creates avalanche safety resources for public use throughout the state. The signs and brochures below are free to organizations and groups. We work with local partners to install signage seasonally at trailheads across Colorado, at motorized, non-motorized, skiing, hiking and climbing access points identified by local land managers, and at huts.

Beacon Checker Signs

Beacon checker signs give backcountry travelers a check at trailheads and access gates, reminding them to confirm their transceiver is switched on and transmitting before they enter avalanche terrain. They also encourage carrying one in the first place.

The CAIC cannot provide these signs free of charge, but will provide the design file. The beacon checker itself has to be manufactured. There are two types, one powered by Backcountry Access electronics and one by Ortovox.
