Know Before You Go to Work

Know Before You Go to Work is a program the Friends of CAIC and the CAIC launched in 2019. Thousands of people work in and around avalanche terrain across the United States, and many of them have neither training in how to manage that risk nor a support structure to keep them safe.

Why the Program Exists

Since 1950, 73 people have lost their lives in avalanches while at work. Every one of those deaths could have been prevented.

The goal of Know Before You Go to Work is to help people understand the avalanche danger they face at work, and to provide training that helps them manage it.
